In our quest to balance the earthy with the ethereal, we find inspiration in the duality inherent in the symbolism of copper and the crane.
Copper is rooted in the earth. The metal serves as a symbol of healing in many cultures and is often used to store that precious and most elemental source of human nourishment—water. It is a symbol of femininity and grace. In Greek mythology, copper was dear to Hermes, the god of mental agility, the travel and messenger of the gods.
In contrast, the crane is an ethereal bird, highly auspicious in many cultures in the East. A symbol of fidelity, purity, and longevity, it was embroidered onto wedding garments in Japan and China. The crane also denotes prosperity and good fortune, a thousand paper cranes often exchanged on important occasions and the symbol of the Emperor’s household in Japan.
